Distilled Water:
Distilled water serves to activate the lye and start the saponification process — its purity guarantees consistency and removes impurities that might interfere with the soap's performance.

Lye (Sodium Hydroxide):
An essential element in classic soapmaking, lye reacts with oils via saponification to form soap. Once the cure time finishes, all the lye is consumed through this reaction — resulting in mild, nourishing soap that's gentle on skin.

Keeping and longevity

Cold-process soap bars get better as they mature, just like aged wine or barrel-aged spirits!

Place your bar somewhere dry or use a soap tray after washing to maximize longevity and prevent moisture damage and bacterial growth. A typical bar lasts between 3-5 weeks depending on how often you use it and how you store it.

Ideal within the first 12 months, though effectiveness continues; scent may fade over time.

Can lye hurt my skin? Not at all — our time-honored soap production involves a 3-4 week cure allowing sodium hydroxide and water to break down fully before shipment!

Does this bar create thick suds? Tallow creates less foam compared to synthetic foaming compounds or mass-market chemical oils, so experience smooth glide instead of heavy bubbles — use a lather bag for more foam if that's what you enjoy!
